About
Managing forests since 1980
fountains forestry was established in 1980 to manage hardwood forests in the eastern United States, initially serving UK clients with land holdings in the US, and now serving landowners and investors throughout the world. With unsurpassed credentials for sustainable and socially responsible forest management, fountains forestry manages hundreds of thousands of acres of FSC and SFI certified lands for private and institutional land investors with a value of about $600 million.
The principal species managed are Sugar Maple, Black Cherry, Oak, Ash, Tulip Poplar, Birch, and White Pine. Through our affiliates and developed associations, fountains also provides expert management for tropical and European forests.
Growing value in the forest
On properties managed by fountains forestry, the growth in value of the timber has on average exceeded original projections and often appreciates annually by more than 10 percent. Based on independent valuations and on actual market sales, annual returns have generally been in the range of 7-12 percent.
While the measure of value of forest management services is taken in growth and return over the long term, the quality of our service is immediately evident in the woods. fountains forestry invites prospective clients to inspect our work and compare it to any of our competitors. We offer truly exceptional and responsible forest stewardship.
Experienced forestry leadership
David J. Daut, president of fountains forestry, has been with the company since 1986, and was previously with International Paper Company in Maine. He is responsible for all aspects of forestland management activities on all client properties and projects, including ME, NH, VT, MA, NY, PA, MD, OH, WV, VA, KY, and TN. Duties include all long-term management plan development and implementation, inventory design, data collection, data processing and interpretation, budgeting, road building, silvicultural activities, timber harvest preparation and administration, forest maintenance, and recreation lease administration.
With a supporting team of 30+ foresters, administrators, and appraisers throughout the eastern US, fountains forestry is staffed to provide exceptional, responsive service to clients.
